If you are a close family member of the individual with diabetes that you support, you are automatically at risk of developing the condition. If you are just a close friend of the person, but are of the same high-risk ethnic descent, you are similarly at risk.

One of the most common questions regarding diabetes is 'Can it be cured? This is a question to which, unfortunately, there is not the answer that people want to hear.

In the past year or so, I have had numerous patients who have declined starting on new diabetes medications due to articles in the news linking certain diabetes medication with cancer.
