When told they need to move to insulin injections, many people fear the pain associated with needles. Yet the reality is that when insulin therapy is started, most people are surprised to find how little the injections hurt.

Insulin pumps use rapid-acting insulin to deliver both basal and bolus doses. Basal doses mimic the pancreas’ function between meals, while bolus doses are used at mealtime.

The simple answer to that question is “yes!” Sometimes the dose of insulin you need to take to lower your blood sugar is higher than your insulin pen or syringe can deliver.
